20 Communities | 3 Priorities | 1 Voice
View From Here WNC is a public health campaign created by a 19-county collaboration spreading from Cherokee to McDowell, and including the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. This umbrella social media campaign focuses on improving the lives of WNC residents by addressing the top three shared health priorities in our region:
- Mental health
- Substance use
- Healthy eating/active living
The View From Here WNC campaign was built off our learning from a nearly two-year regional COVID-19 campaign, My Reason WNC. Some of what we’ve found works well in western NC includes: a regional approach with local autonomy and local branding, highlighting the strength, beauty, & resilience of our region; using social media to reach people where they’re receiving information; conducting regional listening sessions with subject matter experts and folks with lived experience to ensure our materials are culturally competent and engaging; lifting up stories from trusted local messengers; gathering shared performance measures so we can evaluate, iterate, and tell our story.
All View From Here WNC materials have been developed based on stakeholder feedback collected during a series of regional listening sessions. Listening session participants included community leaders and public health professionals who work in or are connected to Mental Health, Substance Misuse, or Healthy Eating/Active Living.
